Quality service and partnerships keep us going…

Firefighters were on station on Wednesday working with Howell Rescue from Kettering, Ohio to perform preventative maintenance on our hydraulic rescue tools from Genesis.

The FCFD operates R415 out of station one with a slightly larger compliment of tools (cutters, spreaders, combi-tool, several rams, and plenty of accessories. E413 operates out of station two in Pike Twp with a slightly smaller set of equipment, but both systems are compatible.

All of the hydraulic equipment was purchased through grant money from a highly competitive grant called the Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA.

Taking time…taking care of our fleet

Members taking a little extra time tonight while enjoying the weather to clean up our apparatus and keep our fleet looking top notch. While tonight these trucks may be clean, we won’t hesitate to get these things dirty and put them to work.

We have some of the finest equipment through solid planning, saving, and teamwork in getting what will serve the community the best. Our past fireboards, chiefs, officers, and firefighters have paved us a solid path to success and we pride ourselves in what we have here at the FCFD.

Opening lines of communication

Firefighters were out in the community last night speaking with our local village council. With the changes to the makeup of the board of trustees, we wanted to open lines of communication, provide an opportunity for them to ask questions of our operations, and to let them know of our concern of the rumor of the discussion of a merger (with EMS) that are out in the community.

We have been able to answer a great number of questions over the last month or so as our members have been attending local meetings. Both public and elected officials have been active in numerous conversations.

Our doors are open, this is YOUR fire department and we enjoy serving this community.

If these pages could talk…

If the pages of this fire run log from 1975 and 1976 belonging to the Fredericktown Community Fire District could only talk.

They fought fire with less airpacks, water issues, they exrtricated crash victims by different means, and worked through it, along with so much more. While some members may still be alive, there are those that have passed on. The ways that we fight fire have changed, the equipment that we use has changed, our gear is safer, our training better, our trucks state of the art…

What hasn’t changed at the FCFD you ask? The drive, the passion, the heart, the mission, the people. We live here, work here, and serve here.

FCFD to pin honorary firefighter

On Thursday, June 30, the Fredericktown Community Fire District will hold a special ceremony wherein they will make six-year old Brian Ford an honorary firefighter with the FCFD. The ceremony will begin at 6:00pm at our main firehouse at 139 Columbus Road in Fredericktown.

Brian was diagnosed late in 2014 with acute undifferentiated leukemia, which is a rare form of cancer. Since that time he has underwent a bone marrow transplant, expecting that was his cure. Unfortunately his leukemia came back. He received a stem cell transplant in 2016, anticipating it to be the cure, but sadly it wasn’t enough and he is now considered terminal.

Brian was first introduced to our fire district through Firefighter Jason Bostic. Firefighter Bostic is an ambassador to the Scott Firefighter Stair Climb, which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He met Brian and his family shortly after the first diagnosis, going on to make him an honoree the last two years for the international event and bringing him to the firehouse. The two have maintained contact and a bond throughout his battle.

The Thursday event is open to the public and light refreshments will be served after the ceremony. Due to some parking restraints at the firehouse, those who are able may want to park at the old Fredericktown High School located up the street at 117 Columbus Road. Departments sending apparatus should contact the firehouse at 740-694-9701 to coordinate vehicle placement.

Firefighters train on single-lane tank system

Firefighters and cadets met on station for their regular training last night. Training was led by FF Heath Kempton who went over operations with our single lane tank and the concepts of shuttling water. Asst. Chief Dwayne Canter instructed on the draft operations with R415 and familiarized the group with the differences in using the air-primer system that it uses.

Party responsibly, Don’t Drink and Drive

As the new year is almost upon us, we know that many are celebrating it.  As much as we enjoy meeting our residents and those passing through the fire district, we would rather not see you tonight on negative terms.  If you drink, do the responsible thing and don’t drive.  Call a friend, a cab, or simply stay where you are.  Nothing is worth risking your life or the lives of others on the roadway.

We at the Fredericktown Community Fire District wish you a very Happy New Year.

Boots in the community for Toy Drive donations

toydriveOur fire boots are still out in the community for donation collection for just a couple more weeks. Thank you to everyone that has donated so far and is helping to make Christmas a little brighter for the children in our community.  You will find these fire boots at businesses around Fredericktown.  Please, if you can, any size donation helps!  Thank you!

Did you know that the Fredericktown Firefighters Association toy drive is a standalone drive? Yes, thats correct, our drive is operated independently by our members with 100% volunteer work.

Did you know that we work directly with Fredericktown Interchurch to identify the local need?  With the assistance of Interchurch we find out minimal information such as age and boy/girl to know how many people that we will be shopping for.  Families sign up through their organization thus removing that process from our toy drive.

Did you know that our toys stay in the Fredericktown area?  Thats right, the money and toys that come in through our toy drive stay local to our fire district.  There is a significant need within our area alone and we strive to make sure that we are able to provide for families here.

How are we funded?  Our drive is funded solely through donations and a community grant that we have received from Walmart.  No district funds are used for the toy drive.  Our flower sales, boot drive, and donations that are sent in directly for the toy drive are what makes it happen!

Busy week, and reminders

Things have busy around the FCFD the past few days or so with runs.  Some runs in district and others mutual-aid.  One thing that has kept crews around Knox County busy however have been grass/field fires that are being quickly spread by the unpredictable winds and dry conditions that exist in the fall.

Did you know that during the months of March, April, May, October, and November; between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm that there is NO OPEN BURNING PERMITTED in the State of Ohio?  Thats right, we are right in the middle of a BURN BAN!  Dry conditions, the right type of tinder on the ground, harvested fields or those waiting to be harvested are just a spark away from a raging inferno that can move rapidly out of control.

Even after the hours of the BURN BAN you should exercise extreme caution before lighting your outdoor fire.  If high winds exist, don’t light it and find a better time.

If ever you feel that the fire is out of control, call 911 immediately to get firefighters on the way to quickly extinguish the fire.

Firehouse pride

We take a lot of pride in the fleet that we have and spend time making sure everything goes back into service ready for the next call. A photo from after a recent fire where cleanup ran right up until training.
