Congratulations to the 2018 graduating class of Fredericktown High School. Special congrats go out to Noah Smith as he officially transitions from Fire Cadet to Probationary Firefighter tonight!
Cadets spent their second meeting of the month in the training center on search and rescue. Next month starts the summer Fire Cadet Academy.
CH411, R415, E413, T417 were dispatched at 4:16am on Sunday to the 16000 block of North Liberty Road on a motor vehicle crash with fire.
Upon arrival to scene, CH411 found a vehicle overturned and fully engulfed in fire. The driver of the vehicle was able to get out of the vehicle, no extrication was required. Fredericktown EMS transported one male to Knox Community Hospital.
The crew of E413 made the initial attack and stretched a 1 3/4″ line for suppression. Incoming crews assisted. The roadway was shut down.
The FCFD had a total of 12 firefighters respond to the call.
CH411, E419, T417, G412, G414 were dispatched at 11:48am on Saturday morning to the 19000 block of Ankneytown Road on the report of a trailer load of hay on fire.
Upon arrival of CH411 the trailer of hay was off the roadway and unhooked from the truck. Unburned hay was being removed by hand.
Firefighters stretched the 1 3/4″ line from the bumper of E419 for suppression and crews used hand tools to tear apart bales. A draft site was setup nearby at Knox lake for water supply.
A total of nine firefighters and one cadet responded to the call. All FCFD crews were back in quarters by 1:39pm.
Members of the Fredericktown Community Fire District will be setup and recruiting at the Fredericktown Local Schools on May 8, during the junior high and high school lunch periods 10:30 until 12:30 or so. The purpose of our recruitment day is to find youth who are interested in the Fire Cadet program or the fire service.

What sets our program apart? We are a standalone cadet program that does not work under the auspices of a State or National agency. We charge absolutely ZERO fees to be a member.
What does our program teach? Our cadets follow very closely the Ohio 36-Hour Volunteer Firefighter curriculum that is taught around the state. They learn important hands on skills that can be used in a variety of situations on the fire ground, training ground, and in the classroom. Our cadets learn life saving skills that they will retain and utilize.
What do we offer? The opportunity first and foremost to build and shape these young adults in a positive manner. If they are interested in the fire service as a career this is a great starting point for them to try it out and make decisions that will affect them after graduation.
How active are the fire cadets? After their summer long academy, they train at least twice a month and are invited to all fire department trainings conducted by the FCFD. Cadets once they successfully complete the academy are permitted to respond with firefighters to incidents.
CH411, E419, E413, R415 were dispatched at 2:10am on Sunday morning to North Gay Street in Mount Vernon on the report of a structure fire.
The crew of E419 and CH411 assisted with overhaul and searching for fire extension. E413 and R415 were setup in staging.
The FCFD had a total of 12 firefighters respond to the call.

Cadets and recruits meet almost weekly throughout the summer as a part of this program and are invited to all FCFD training to further their skills and build teamwork. With few exceptions, our cadets are not sitting in classrooms they are the majority of the time in a hands on environment learning not only life safety skills, but skills for LIFE! We are proud of the program that we have build at the Fredericktown Community Fire District, it is successful, growing, and already paying dividends in new firefighters in the community. CH411 and R415 were dispatched at 3:58pm on Thursday to the 20000 block of Ankneytown Road (OH-95) on the report of a motor vehicle crash. Fredericktown EMS was dispatched as well, responding two medic units.
Upon arrival CH411 found two pickup trucks involved with heavy damage to both. One vehicle was in the roadway and the other cam to rest against a house. No extrication was required. Firefighters disabled the vehicles and assisted with traffic.
The FCFD had 13 firefighters and one cadet respond to the call. All units were back in quarters by 5:23pm.
G412 and G414 were dispatched at 1:17pm on Wednesday to the 18000 block of Waterford Road on the report of an unknown type of open burn.
Upon arrival, crews found driftwood being burned near the water. Crews stretched an 1 3/4 line for extinguishment and used the available tank water.
The FCFD had six firefighters and one cadet respond to this call. All units were back in quarters by 2:45pm.
